As we stand on the precipice of a new year, resolutions echo in the air like the wing whistle of a collard dove. For many, the call of the great outdoors is a powerful motivator, but for those of us carrying the weight—both metaphorically and literally—of being an overweight outdoorsman, the journey is fraught with unique challenges and missed opportunities. In this blog, I will delve into the struggles faced by individuals like me, acknowledging the difficulties of being an overweight outdoorsman and exploring the path toward change and self-discovery.

Being overweight brings with it a set of challenges that can be physically and mentally taxing. The limitations on equipment, tailored to a specific body size, can further impede the enjoyment of outdoor activities. While friends scale mountains in pursuit of elk, the idea of walking half a mile to jump-shoot a duck pond becomes a daunting task. The desire to partake in the full spectrum of outdoor experiences clashes with the physical limitations imposed by excess weight. It's a bitter pill to swallow, knowing that the very passion that fuels our spirit is also the source of our limitations.
